Where can you park if you're ending your hike in Erwin?      

​Chestoa Recreation Area:  The above photo of the large, paved parking lot is located about 200 yards from the AT where the trail crosses the Nolichucky River.    It's easy to find and best of all:  It's free!     

Directions:  From Exit 40 off I-26 take Temple Hill Rd (runs in front of Mountain Inn & Suites) 1/2 mile to River Rd.   Turn left on River Rd,  go 1/2 mile to a 4-way stop sign (the Nolichucky Hostel will be on your right), turn left and go over the bridge and immediately turn right after you cross the bridge.    You'll see the AT go into the woods on your left and in about 200 yards you'll come to the large, paved parking lot in the photo above.  Can't miss it.    

Uncle Johnny's:  The Nolichucky Hostel (Uncle Johnny's) also offers safe, monitored parking.  Rates are $3 per day.   Located practically on the AT this is the closest parking to the trail. To get here, see directions above.    We'll meet you here and head to the trail.   If you need a ride back to your car this is an excellent place to meet - you can grab a snack and drink and relax on the deck.

Mountain Inn & Suites is also hiker-friendly and is 1 mile from the trail.   You can park there free, even if you're not a guest.   Park in the back of the hotel and let the staff know you're there (if you're not staying).    This is the safest place to park in town - lit lot with cameras and 24 hour monitoring.     We will meet you there and take you directly to the trail.
